Pizza Barboni is awesome. Awesome! End of review.
Okay, just kidding. But I could just leave it at that and it would be totally true. Pizza Barboni in Kemang is a simple concept: delicious pizza, good prices. We’re been meaning to try it out for ages, ever since a friend claimed in was the best pizza in Jakarta, so last Friday we headed past for a quick pizza (or four) before hitting the town.
You can either get Pizza Barboni home delivered (only in Kemang, and when they’re in the mood), or stop by their little shop on Jalan Kemang 1. It’s small and simply furnished, with wooden chairs and benches, and decorated with pizza boxes. Despite keeping things low key, it’s got a good vibe and the pizzas taste awesome fresh out of the traditional wood fire oven.
The menu is small, but all of it tasty. My favourite is the Parma (RP80,000), topped with prosciutto, cherry tomatoes and rocket salad, follow by the Funghi (RP5o,ooo) with mushrooms and mozzarella. The ingredients are fresh and unlike most pizza joints in Jakarta, actually taste good when mixed together. The best bit is the base, a salty, olive oiled bit of bready heaven.
Dine-in is a no-frills occasion, with the pizzas served in their boxes with a side of chilli sauce. What else do you need though, except for a wad of napkins? It might not be for special occasions, but Pizza Barboni is the perfect stopover for some comfort food and, if we’re lucky enough to get one in Central Jakarta, will absolutely become a mid week fav.
